Alpha Sigma Phi is part of a large network of Greek organizations, commonly referred to as the alphabet soup (AFA, FCA, FEA, NIC, etc). Being Greek is not just limited to your campus experience, but expands way beyond that and includes several national associations that help lead the Greek movement.
Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS)
The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), founded in 1925, is the nation's only certifying agency for college and university honor societies. ACHS sets standards for organizational excellence and for scholastic eligibility for the various categories of membership: general, specialized, leadership, freshman, and two-year honor societies. To assure member participation in governance, honor societies must be structured on a membership basis so that the interests of individual members are advanced.
Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA)
The cooperative organization of college and university administrative staff members who have primary responsibility for working with Greek organizations on their respective campuses.
Center for the Study of the College Fraternity (CSCF)
The Center for the Study of the College Fraternity was formed in 1979 to encourage and support research of the highest quality and educational significance on the role of the American college fraternity in higher education. The Center fulfills this mission in part through research grants, publication of monographs, and the indexing and collection of completed research projects.
Fraternity Communications Association (FCA)
The cooperative organization of editors/communicators of fraternities, sororities, and societies (general, honor, professional, and recognition), as well as other representatives of interfraternal organizations and other groups with a genuine interest in the Greek communications programs.
Fraternity Executives Association (FEA)
The Fraternity Executives Association is a professional association of men’s and women’s fraternity executives dedicated to the common interests of its members by promoting, supporting and encouraging the free discussion and exchange of ideas relating to college fraternal organizations. Its members are employees of the administrative offices of general college social fraternal organizations who promote and uphold the Code of Ethics of the Fraternity Executives Association.
Mid-American Greek Council Association (MGCA)
The Mid-American Greek Council Association exists to stimulate the growth and development of college Fraternity/Sorority Councils by promoting leadership and educational experiences for student leaders at colleges and universities. Mission/Purpose: The purpose of MGCA is to stimulate the growth and development of college Greek Councils by promoting leadership and educational experiences for student leaders at colleges and universities. The annual leadership conference, area conferences, and other educational resources to member schools and the general public are the basis of the Association's educational services. MGCA is an organization consisting of member Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic, Panhellenic, Multicultural,
and Greek Councils, at both public and private institutions.
North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC)
The North-American Interfraternity Conference is the trade association representing 64 International and National Men's Fraternities. Founded in 1909, the NIC works to ensure that fraternities can operate in an environment conducive to their success. Leadership for the NIC is provided by a nine-member Board of Directors. Listed below are the benefits of membership in the NIC for all member organizations.
North American Interfraternal Foundation (NIF)
The North American Interfraternal Foundation exists to promote and support leadership, educational, and research initiatives that advance the North American college fraternal experience by giving scholarships, grants and recognition.
National Asian Pacific American Panhellenic Association (NAPAPA)
The National Asian Pacific American Panhellenic Association (NAPAPA) started as the APIA Greek Alliance in the Summer of 2004 as a campaign to address issues facing Asian Greeks. Through projects such as APIA Vote, Tsunami Relief, Katrina Relief, and more, they have collaborated to combat the issues facing Asians, Asian Americans, and Asian Greeks today.
National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO)
The association is an umbrella council for Latino Greek Letter Organizations. Its Mission Statement: The purpose of NALFO is to promote and foster positive interfraternal relations, communication, and development of all Latino Fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism and education. Established in 1998, NALFO has 23 member organizations from across the United States.
National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC)
The 1980s and 1990s saw the emergence of a multicultural fraternity/sorority movement. It seemed like new fraternities and sororities were popping up everywhere. But, not the typical fraternity and sorority. The end of the twentieth century gave birth to a colorful movement - that of multiculturalism. Newly formed fraternities and sororities were looking to write a new page in the Greek-letter society history books. The message that they announced was the inclusiveness of all cultures, races, religions, and creeds.
Realizing the importance of uniting the new faces of Greek Life 13 GLOs came together to create a national multicultural council. The NMGC was conceptualized in 1998 with intentions to unite Greek-letter Fraternities and Sororities under one national entity.
National Panhellenic Conference (NPC)
The National Panhellenic Conference exists to promote the values of and to serve as an advocate for its member groups in collaboration with those members, campuses and communities. National Panhellenic Conference, founded in 1902, is an umbrella organization for 26 inter/national women's fraternities and sororities. Each member group is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter society of college women and alumnae. Members are represented on over 620 college and university campuses in the United States and Canada and in over 4,600 alumnae associations, making up over 3.6 million sorority women in the world.
National Pan-Hellenic Conference (NPHC)
NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions. Its Mission: “Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations.”
Northeastern Greek Leadership Association (NGLA)
Mission Statement: The Northeast Greek Leadership Association exists to promote the founding principles and positive traditions of all Greek letter organizations through opportunities that encourage learning and leadership for the Northeast region.
Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC)
The Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) is a voluntary association of fraternity governing councils in the southeastern United States. SEIFC is one of the six regional associations throughout North America designed to bring together institutions and individuals with a commitment to fraternity life on college and university campuses.
SEIFC was founded during a meeting of student leaders, fraternity professionals and Greek advisors in Jackson, Mississippi, over 40 years ago. The concept of direct student involvement remains a cornerstone of SEIFC today. With over 100 fraternity governing councils currently holding membership, colleges and universities with student populations from under 3,000 to over 30,000 are serviced by the SEIFC Administrative Office. Services rendered by the SEIFC are equally beneficial to any size member institution.
Western Region Greek Association (WRGA)
The Western Region Greek Association (WRGA) hosts the Western Regional Greek Leadership Conference (WRGLC) one of the four regional conferences for Interfraternity Councils, Panhellenic Councils, Greek Councils, National Pan-Hellenic Councils, and Multicultural Greek Councils. The Western Regional Greek Leadership Conference is the oldest of the regional conference and has met regularly since its establishment in 1948. Presently there are approximately 60 campuses throughout the 14 Western United States and 2 Western Canadian Providences eligible to hold membership in WRGA and attend the annual conference.
