PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK – The State University of New York – Plattsburgh is now officially recognized as a Colony of the Fraternity. Plattsburgh, the Delta Xi Chapter is a re-start for the Fraternity.
The Pledge and Colonization Ceremony took place on the Plattsburgh campus Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. The event was attended by nine alumni from the Delta Xi Chapter including Stewart Dawes, Plattsburgh ’88 and the Colonies Grand Chapter Advisor Philip Sorette, Plattsburgh ’88. Later that evening several girl friends, sorority members, and the Plattsburgh Greek Advisor Allison Swick-Duttine and her Graduate Assistant JJ Reardin were on hand to witness the Colonization Ceremony.
A diverse group of twenty-one men participated in the Pledge and Colonization Ceremony: Angelo Boniello, Griffin Burnett, Lucas Callahan, Greg Colluci, Anthony DeLeo, Chris DiCaprio, Dan Liptak, Andrew Machord, Cody Marshall, Jeremy Mathsen, Nathaniel Mattison, James Mueller, Alex Newman, Jerry O’Brien, Eamon Peer, Justin Prue, Steve Roth, Pete Schwille, Kevin Stump, Cory Sullivan, and Jonathan Trzepkowski. The Colony was first recognized in September 2008 as an Interest Group. Four members of the Interest Group participated in a retreat at Fraternity Headquarters in November that helped them lay out an action plan to take back to campus.
The Delta Xi Chapter got its start in the fall of 1985 when Eric Kerleis, a pledge at the Beta Epsilon Chapter at Lehigh University transferred to Plattsburgh and organized the interest group. The group was formally recognized as a colony of Alpha Sigma Phi on April 26, 1986. The chapter chartered on March 26, 1988, with 38 undergraduates, two alumni, and two faculty members. Eric Kerleis served as the first President of the Chapter. The Kahunta Kronicle was the chapter’s newsletter. The Chapter closed in 2002 having initiated just over two hundred men.
The Colony is on track to be chartered in the spring of 2010. Currently the Grand Chapter Advisor is looking for additional volunteers to help assist the Colony. If you are interested and live in upstate New York, Vermont, or New Hampshire please contact Fraternity Headquarters.
