SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI – Gym Class Heroes headlined LU*Palooza a free concert for Lindenwood University students organized and sponsored by Alpha Sigma Phi and Delta Zeta. The concert kicked off at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, and included Chester French and Elevenseven. Needmore, A Verse Unsung, and Fight! Fight! Fight! performed on a second stage.
LU*Palooza is an all-day music festival thrown by Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. The original LU*Palooza all-day music festival was a historic event held at Lindenwood University on April 20, 1999. The first LU*Palooza took place on the gazebo in Heritage Campus, a central location in Lindenwood's quad and a central social gathering spot for students on campus.
The original LU*Palooza was assembled through the joint work of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and Delta Zeta Sorority. Members Christopher Kyle, Lindenwood ’97 and Amy Miller of Delta Zeta created and spearheaded the event. These representatives from the two Greek organizations were planning for the upcoming Greek Week and the campus’ annual Spring Fling, a week-long campus celebration for the coming of spring. The idea for LU*Palooza was the result of their desire to make Greek life on campus widely known and to bring everyone together. “We needed an event that would stick out from the others on campus and be long remembered,” said Chris Kyle.
Event organizers included Chris Mowry, Lindenwood ’07, Chris Zammit, Lindenwood ’05, and Landon Schierholz, Lindenwood ’06 with the support of Lindenwood’s Student Activities Director, Kerry Cox. LU*Palooza is part of the University’s Spring Fling activities.
