CARMEL, INDIANA – For the fifteenth time in our one hundred and sixty-four year history the Fraternity has selected a Brother from among the best and brightest to lead the Fraternity. The Grand Council of Alpha Sigma Fraternity announced today that Gordy Heminger, Bowling Green ’96, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Inc., effective July 6, 2009. Heminger follows Thomas R. Hinkley, Indiana ’84, who has been serving as the interim President and CEO since January.
Grand Senior President Richard T. Ritter, Toledo ’91 and Ohio Wesleyan ’93, said, “The Grand Council interviewed several outstanding candidates who would have served the Fraternity well, but Gordy Heminger is the right person at the right time for Alpha Sigma Phi. Gordy has demonstrated the ability to increase alumni involvement, helped chapters enhance their commitment to membership growth while improving quality measures and shown himself to be a real advocate for today’s student. He is truly a leader in the Greek industry.”
Gordy is a 1999 graduate of Bowling Green State University earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and history. He graduated in 2002, with a master’s degree in college student personnel. He has been employed full time at Bowling Green for the last seven years, andcurrently serves as the Interim Associate Director of Residence Life and Director of Greek Affairs. From various posts he’s held at BGSU, Heminger has gained experience in leadership programming, crisis management, and fiscal planning. He has a strong background in Greek affairs having managed one of the largest Greek affairs budgets in the country and supervising the largest Greek affairs staff in North America while at Bowling Green. Gordy has developed both short and long-term strategic plans for the Greek life department including an assessment program.

A native of Maumee, Ohio Heminger was elected to an at-large seat on Maumee City Council when he was 18, and was re-elected two years later. He was the youngest person ever elected and re-elected to hold a seat on the City Council. Gordy is currently serving a second term on the Bowling Green City Council. He will resign from the Bowling Green City Council when his new responsibilities begin at Fraternity Headquarters this July.
A former Grand Councilor, Gordy served on the Council as an undergraduate. Heminger is a 1998 recipient of the Fraternity’s Frank F. Hargear Memorial Award, the Fraternity’s highest undergraduate award and is the second man to lead the Fraternity as its President who has received that award being preceded by former Executive Vice President Steve V. Zizzo, Illinois ’84. Gordy is a 2008 recipient of the Fraternity’s Delta Beta Xi Award. Delta Beta Xi is awarded for sustained alumni service to the Fraternity. While potential criteria for the award is as varied as our brotherhood, general criteria include years of service, type of service, and significant achievements.
Heminger will join the Staff in early July, but has already begun to transition into his role as CEO. Gordy will be relocating from Bowling Green, Ohio to the Indianapolis, Indiana area in the coming months. Those who wish to congratulate and welcome Gordy may do so by sending an email to:
