FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 11, 2009 | 9:00 AM EDT
CARMEL, INDIANA – As the nation commemorates the eighth anniversary of September 11th, our Fraternity honors the men and women in our armed forces who are protecting our American values and working to give people from far away countries the opportunity to forge similar freedoms.
The Fraternity also pays tribute to nearly three thousand men and women who lost their lives that day. We also honor those men and women who risked their lives to help those in need in New York, Washington, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
On this day, the President directs that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff and displayed from individual American homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments, home and abroad. The President also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time) marking the first plane crash on Sept. 11, 2001.
Our chapters will commemorate this day by participating in college and university memorials, donating blood, and volunteering. By their actions these are men who live our values, strive for greatness, and want to become better men. Each will mark this day in a manner they deem most appropriate.
