NEW YORK, NEW YORK - Steve Hartman, Bowling Green ’82, regularly finds the extraordinary behind the ordinary.  Brother Hartman reports for CBS News as a correspondent, a job he’s had since 1998.

The Emmy-winning journalist can be seen reporting his regular segment, “Assignment America” on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. The destination for the segment is determined by viewers’ online votes. His viewers ultimately decide the story. Starting his career by literally throwing a dart at a map for his multiple award-winning feature series, “Everybody Has a Story,” he continues to visit cities and towns across the country, meeting regular folks, and uncovering the remarkable story behind each one. In an era of heavy news, viewers find Hartman’s portrayal of everyday citizens refreshing.

Brother Hartman said in a recent blog, “The secret is that everyone really does have a story. In fact, most people have many stories.”

Brother Hartman’s talent for finding the story within has gone global. Aboard the International Space Station recently, astronaut Jeff Williams randomly chose three global locations for Hartman’s journey. Taking him around the world, Hartman reports for CBS and in his blog. The stories will be revealed early in 2010, and throughout his journeys, Hartman shows us that really everyone has a fascinating story.
