CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA - In the short time since we moved from Colony status to being chartered as the Epsilon Upsilon Chapter, we have learned that the most powerful recruiting tool is constant networking.

Essentially recruitment success is a simple game of numbers. The more potential members we meet at social events, intramural sports, campus leadership, and academic opportunities, the larger the pool of potential members. A larger pool of potential new members means that we meet a larger number of individuals who exhibit the values we seek in new members.

To attract high-quality new members we participate in a wide array of public events such as intramural and club sports, philanthropies, student senate, transfer council, resident assistants, orientation ambassadors, Honors College, and major-related professional societies.

We believe visibility on campus is key. We wear Alpha Sigma Phi lettered clothing and put our letters on items like our vehicles and laptops that make our members easily recognizable.

This is not a scenario in which quality drives quantity, but one in which quantity drives quality. We define quality as a new member’s potential to positively contribute to the Chapter and to uphold and exhibit our five values. Epsilon Upsilon’s ability to draw from a wide variety of students is highlighted by the fact that our Chapter is comprised of individuals from 21 different states, spanning from coast to coast.

But most of all, our recruiting success stems from the strength of our Brotherhood. The affection our Brothers’ show for one another is almost tangible; something that others can sense and are inherently drawn to.

Note: Our Clemson Chapter recruited 31 men in Fall 2009 and another 15 this spring.
