ALLENDALE, MICHIGAN – Despite a few sore muscles, 14 Delta Phi brothers from Grand Valley State University completed the Chapter’s 16th annual bike ride around Lake Michigan raising more than $10,000 for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
The seven-day ride starts on the Grand Valley campus in Allendale, MI and has stops in several cities and towns along the lake’s shore where the brothers sleep in churches, schools and at relatives’ homes where they are greeted with food, comfort, and more than a few cheers of encouragement. Biking through Escanaba, the Delta Phi brothers were joined by members of the Beta Delta Chapter at Northern Michigan University.
Canine Companions for Independence trains and provides assistance dogs to disabled adults and children.
A highlight of the bike ride is a special banquet hosted by CCI’s regional headquarters, as the team of riders makes their way through Chicago. Chapter members were treated to stories, demonstrations, and more information on how the dollars raised make a positive impact on the daily activities of a disabled person.
Grand Valley brothers report being pleased by the brotherhood experiences shared during the ride and knowing how important is the aid they provide to CCI. The chapter plans to continue this active, outward display of Charity for years to come.
