Our National Philanthropy
At the 50th Grand Chapter in Louisville, Kentucky, delegates of the Grand Chapter voted to change our national philanthropy to LIVESTRONG the Lance Armstrong Foundation. After careful consideration of many worth charities, the Lance Armstrong Foundation seemed to compliment the Fraternity Vision and Purpose better than any other. Those in attendance at Grand Chapter recognized the opportunity to not only cooperate and serve a national philanthropy, but many chapters already had long time relationships with local charities, so the Fraternity’s new position statement calls for chapters to support the Fraternity’s National Philanthropy, but to also identify a local charity to support.  Other fraternity’s have long supported the Lance Armstrong Foundation, but Alpha Sigma Phi is the first “national” fraternity to partner with LIVESTRONG.

Donating Money to LIVESTRONG
The Lance Armstrong Foundation has been excited about this opportunity from day one.  To better coordinate our donations and to ensure that chapters and individuals who submit donations are counted towards the effort of the Fraternity, the Educational Foundation has agreed to collect funds on behalf of LIVESTRONG, keep track of donations, and submit 100% of funds collected for LIVESTRONG to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  Collectively, the Fraternity’s members donate a significant amount of time and money to charity.  With the Educational Foundations assistance we will be able to track donations and time allowing us to tell your story to the rest of the Fraternity.  The Educational Foundation has created yellow collection envelopes.  To obtain this envelope, please contact the Educational Foundation; they would be happy to send you additional envelopes.  Submit donations to the Educational Foundation in Carmel, Indiana; once received they will acknowledge receipt.

Ideas
There are dozens upon dozens of ideas available.  There are ways to involve your campus community, alumni, parents, sororities, state officials – be creative.  Here are a few to help you get started.

Campus
  • Hold a bike racing tournament around your campus.
  • Have a bike wash – ask individuals to leave their bike with you during class and it will be washed when they come out.
  • Hold a cancer awareness day on campus with free skin cancer screenings.
State
  • Hold a bike tournament across the state using different chapters.
  • Lobby your state capital to support cancer research
Got an idea?  Submit your idea to Steve Latour at Fraternity Headquarters.  Overtime, we plan to build a long list of ideas to utilize on your campus.

Cancer Survivors
Partnering with the Lance Armstrong Foundation presents the Fraternity with a unique opportunity to raise money, be engaged civically, and to serve those in need.  If you are a cancer survivor, the Fraternity wants to hear from you.  In the future we hope to recognize those individuals within our Fraternity as well as involve them at chapter events to support the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  If you are a cancer survivor, please contact Steve Latour at Fraternity Headquarters.  For now, the Fraternity is working to build a list of those affected by the disease.  Your ideas are welcome as we begin to build a long term partnership with the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Evolving Relationship
Our relationship with the Lance Armstrong Foundation will be evolving for many years to come.  We are excited about this new partnership and eager to get started.  The Fraternity will work over time to identify unique opportunities for its members, chapters, and cancer survivors.  We will work with the Lance Armstrong Foundation to provide resources and materials to support your efforts and we will look for ways to challenge our members to give of their time, talent, and treasure.  Chapters are encouraged to review the Lance Armstrong Foundation website for ideas – begin there.  In the future, the Fraternity will provide additional resources and materials.

Use of LIVESTRONG Insignia
Presently, our chapters are permitted to use the insignia located at the top of this page. Chapters are also welcome to use the LIVESTRONG logo on t-shirts, flyers, and banners.  We are encouraging our members to adopt a 3rd official color – Yellow. In support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, chapters are encouraged to print t-shirts, flyers, and banners in yellow. We’ve all come accustom to using cardinal and stone, so here is our opportunity to use a new color for a specific purpose.  Currently, the only insignia the Fraternity can provide is the insignia listed above. We hope to provide additional options in the future.
