We are building Better Men!
Being a leader is more about attitude than position, more about responsibility than authority. Leadership development is a lifelong
commitment to relationships based on respect, understanding, and support. These relationships enrich lives, build communities, and
improve the quality of life for everyone who lives by them.
We achieve our Mission by offering brothers opportunities to embrace a professional, academic, and cultural climate - a climate that
reinforces the power of ethics, morals and values. Through our leadership programs, our brothers develop the skills and tools
critical for intellectual, academic, and professional growth.
The following are leadership programs created or supported by the Fraternity and the Alpha Sigma Phi Educational Foundation.
Click on the title of the program for more information.
The Presidents' Academy of Leadership is an intense experience designed for the leaders of chapters, colonies, and interest
groups. The Academy is held in an environment that allows participants to share thoughts, feelings, and information, and to build
confidence to face the sometimes lonely task of leading with integrity in surroundings that have not always welcomed such ideas.
The Presidents' Academy of Leadership is open to all Chapter, Colony, and Interest Group Presidents. There is a $75 registration
cost to attend the program; all other expenses are covered by the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity through a grant from the Educational
Foundation.
The Institute is designed to reflect the qualities and characteristics of the man for whom the Institute is named. Ralph F. Burns
was a man of character, vision, commitment, action, and dedication. Our undergraduate men are encouraged to model their fraternity
experience after his example.
The Burns Leadership Institute is reserved for only initiated men of the Fraternity. The Institute is conducted at five regional
camps in January. There is no registration fee to attend the Institute; attendees are only responsible for their individual
transportation. The Institute is funded by the Alpha Sigma Phi Educational Foundation.
50th Grand Chapter
August 7-10, 2008 | Louisville, Kentucky
Grand Chapter, formerly the National Convention, is held every even year. Besides bringing Brothers together from all across the
country, the primary purpose of the Grand Chapter is to provide a location for which major Fraternity decisions are made. Delegates
of Grand Chapter will shape the Fraternity's future through legislative action; select and install the next Grand Council; and celebrate
the achievements of brothers and chapters.
Grand Chapter is packed with highly interactive workshops, speakers, hot topic sessions, brotherhood, and of course, fun. Having
the opportunity to gather and share brotherhood with Alpha Sigs from across the country is an inherent benefit of being a member of
a national fraternity. Alpha Sigma Phi endeavors to combine the opportunity to commune, with the chance to learn about what it means
to be an Alpha Sigma Phi Brother.
In congruence with the Fraternity's Mission and Purpose, Alpha Sigma Phi is proud to offer scholarships each year to undergraduates
who would like to attend a national session of The LeaderShape Institute at the Allerton Conference Center in Monticello, Illinois,
approximately 25 miles southwest of Champaign, Illinois.
The scholarships, valued at $1,450, cover conference materials, meals, lodging, and transportation or travel reimbursement.
Previous LeaderShape attendees are not eligible. The LeaderShape Institute is an interactive, energizing, and unique experience that
builds leadership skills no other program can match. Since 1986, over 20,000 participants from all over the world have graduated from
the program. But be prepared! It is six days of non-stop self-discovery and learning from practical experiences that build your
leadership concepts and abilities. Its go, go, go 12 hours a day ... the participants love it!
Chapter Advance
Available Upon Request
Chapter Advance is a new program developed by Fraternity Headquarters, much like a chapter retreat that was designed to assist our
Brothers in becoming better men. Chapter Advance is made possible by a grant from the Alpha Sigma Phi Educational Foundation.
Chapter Advance is your members' opportunity to develop a more cohesive Brotherhood - not through a boring lecture, but through a
fun, interactive experience. Your members will cultivate new ideas, discover how to build upon their strengths and the strengths of
others, and make possible a future that is relevant for tomorrow's undergraduate men.
Chapter Advance ranges from the participation of an entire Brotherhood to just the Prudential Committee and/or "H" Officers.
A Chapter Advance requires 80% attendance by all undergraduate Brothers. A Chapter Advance for the Prudential Committee or "H"
Officers requires all officers attend. Registration for Chapter Advance is on a first-come/first-serve basis. For a group to be
eligible, all members must be current with all national fees. Additionally, the chapter must be current with chapter fees, assessments,
and reporting.
